The rectal rocket is a unique suppository used for the treatment of hemorrhoids. This product is being made in our compounding lab, and may be purchased without a prescription from a doctor. It contains hydrocortisone to decrease any swelling, burning, and itching, as well as lidocaine to decrease any pain. The Rectal Rocket’s design is very different from that of other suppositories. It has a contoured front end and a flared bottom that helps keep it in place. Unlike other suppositories which often slip into the rectum over time, the flared end of the Rectal Rocket keeps the medication in place for approximately 4-6 hours. The Rectal Rocket also has a slit that runs the entire length of the suppository that allows for the passage of gas without causing it to fall out. Its advantage over other commercially available products is that most hemorrhoids have been shown to be cured after two applications. A third suppository should be supplied in case of a flare-up. Rectal Rockets are designed to be used only at bedtime. For patients experiencing pain from anal fissures, diltiazem may also be added to this suppository with a prescription from your doctor. It has been shown to be very effective in promoting the healing of anal fissures.
